Starting their Euro qualifiers campaign in March they’ve played 9 matches and won all of them. With 27 points, they’re sitting at the top of their group table. They will still look for a win in this inconsequential match against Iceland to prepare well for the tougher teams they’ll face in the Euro 2024 finals next year.
Iceland are 4th in the Group J table with 3 wins, 1 draw, and 5 defeats. They won’t be able to qualify for the Euro 2024 finals even if they win against Portugal this weekend. Their only chance of qualifying is through the path of Nations League B play-offs. However, that will turn out to be a tough fight for them.
For the first time in their history, Iceland qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament. They also qualified for the World Cup 2 years later in 2018. However, from there, they’ve failed to qualify for Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if they don’t qualify for Euro 2024.

- Portugal have a number of injury concerns and will be missing their match against Iceland. Matheus Nunes is suffering from a muscle issue and Rafael Leao is nursing a hamstring injury. Additionally, Pepe and Nelson Semedo will also be missing the match with injuries.
- Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot also withdrew from the squad due to personal reasons. Portugal had an easy win, but coach Martinez could choose to shuffle the starting XI that started for Portugal against Lichtenstein.
- Diogo Costa could come back to his post under the bars. On the other hand, outfield players Raphael Guerreiro, Joao Palhinha, Goncalves Inacio, and Ruben Dias should be back in the starting XI for this match.
- Cristiano Ronaldo who opened the scoresheet for Portugal against Lichtenstein, was taken off on 67th minute into the match. He has already scored 10 goals in the qualifiers campaign. Hence, he should be seen featuring from the starting whistle again in this match.

- Iceland didn’t come out unscathed in their last match against Slovakia. The coach was forced to take off Arnor Traustason who got injured in 25 minutes into the match. The midfielder is still nursing the injury and will be unavailable for this match. In his absence, the captain of the team, Aron Gunnarsson should be starting the match.
- The coach should be making a few more changes, especially in the final third. Arnor Sigurdsson should be able to keep his place in the attack, while Andri Gudjohnsen and Alfred Flnnbogason should be featured in the final third alongside him.
