Oldest Football Player: Kazuyoshi Miura, one of the oldest footballers in history has again proved that ‘age is just a number’ as he appeared for Portugal’s second-division club, Oliveirense. The 56-year-old player appeared for Oliveirense’s match against Academico Viseu in the 90th minute. Kazuyoshi Miura came to Oliveirense, the Portuguese second-division club from Yokohama FC this year on loan. His first appearance for Oliveirense came on Saturday. He came on as a substitute in the 90th minute as Oliveirense were already winning 4-1 against Academico Viseu. The league’s website put out a report later that this made ‘King Kazu’ the oldest footballer to appear in Portuguese football at the age of 56 years, 1 month, and 24 days.
He has spent 18 years at Yokohama FC since 2005 and appeared in a whopping 278 matches. He even scored a total of 27 goals for the club. Other than being one of the oldest active footballers, he is also the oldest player to have scored in a professional football match. He achieved this feat in 2017 at the age of 50 years and 14 days. ‘King Kazu’ made the record when he scored against Thespakusatsu Gunma, Japan’s second-division club in 2017 when he was playing for Yokohama FC.
He even helped Yokohama FC progress to Japan’s top division league for the 2020 season. Since then, he has continued to make new records as the oldest player to appear in Japan’s league cup competition and then in the highest national division worldwide. Kazuyoshi Miura is now in his 38th season in professional football and he has played in a number of top clubs around the world.
He has played for big clubs, like Dinamo Zagreb, Palmeiras, Vissel Kobe, and Genoa. He started his career with Santos in Brazil in 1986 and in his long career, Portugal now has become the sixth country. He has also been amazing in his international career for the Japan National Team. He istheir second-highest scorer with 55 goals to his name. He last appeared for Japan in an official match in 2000.
