Why does nobody want Cristiano Ronaldo?
With links to Bayern Munich surfacing just weeks ago and already having engineered sensational moves when it suited him in recent years, first from Real Madrid to Juventus, and then back home to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo now finds himself without UEFA Champions League football and no takers.
The man whose name dominated football headlines alongside Lionel Messi for the better part of well over the last decade is finding himself a discarded commodity. Ronaldo has been linked to various clubs since his ambition to play UCL became clear. The likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Chelsea FC and Sporting CP (Lisbon) have been hugely linked with the player.
What did Lothar Matthäus say while rejecting Ronaldo’s move to Bayern Munich?
German football legend Lothar Matthäus has explained why Ronaldo doesn’t fit at Bayern.
“Bayern Munich don’t need this superstar. We had a superstar in the form of Robert Lewandowski. We have a new superstar with Sadio Mane. Especially the age of Ronaldo that doesn’t suit Bayern Munich. Though Bayern give a good salary, they will not spend a lot of money for a player who is 37 years old now.
“Ronaldo was a fantastic player, and is still a fantastic player. He has done a lot of good things for football. He is one of the best players that football has ever had but he is not of any interest to Bayern who are looking into the future.”
Why did Ronaldo to Chelsea fall through?
Chelsea FC head coach Thomas Tuchel has zero interest, even though the Blues continue to search for a striker. Chelsea have been in talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Barcelona and with a new era starting under Todd Boehly’s reign it is unlikely he would invest in Ronaldo despite having talks with agent Jorge Mendes.
No room for Cristiano at PSG
Paris Saint-Germain have changed their approach this season with a new manager in Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos coming in. The Parisians are now building their team more seriously rather than loading up on big brand-name attackers, and that once again leaves Ronaldo out of the picture with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe already on the spotlight.
Back to Sporting Lisbon?
Ronaldo to Sporting will be highly unlikely this season as the Portuguese side have sold most of their key players in Nuno Mendes to PSG, Joao Palhinha to Fulham and recently transferred Matheus Nunes to Wolves.
Sporting won’t be able to pay the high demand wage fees of Cristiano Ronaldo who earns around £385,000 a week.
