It was their second team that started the defeat chain with a 1-3 defeat against Wrexham. Following that, the first team lost 2-0 to Real Madrid, then lost 2-3 to Borussia Dortmund. While one part of their team will play Athletic Club on Sunday, another part will play Lens on Saturday.
Athletic Club had a mediocre season last term around. They ended the season in 8th place in the La Liga table. They ended up only 2 points behind 7th-placed Osasuna who qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League. They drew two matches – a 0-0 draw against Racing and a 1-1 draw against Eibar. Athletic Club will begin their La Liga campaign against Real Madrid following this friendly against the Red Devils.

- It’s still unclear what kind of starting XI coach Ten Hag is thinking of fielding in their two consecutive friendlies against Athletic Club and Lens. However, there is a chance that he could field his strongest XI against Lens at Old Trafford. That means he could line up his second team for the friendly against Athletic Club.
- The coach also has some unwanted injury concerns this close to the start of the season. Amad Diallo, Dean Henderson, Kobbie Mainoo, and Tyrell Malacia will remain sidelined due to injuries.
