AC Milan’s season was a somewhat average one last time around. They reached the Champions League semi-finals where they were knocked out by their city rivals Inter Milan. They ended their season in 4th position in the Serie A table. Rossoneri will be determined to give a tough challenge for the Serie A title and the Champions League in this upcoming season. They started their preparation on a good note. They have brought on many changes to their team with several new arrivals this transfer window.

Rossoneri won the first pre-season friendly by a 7-0 margin against Lumezzane. However, from then on their form has fallen. Their next match was against Real Madrid which they lost by a 3-2 margin. Their next and last match was against their Serie A rivals Juventus and it ended in a 2-2 stalemate. They will aim to go back to winning ways against Barcelona. This will be the last friendly of their pre-season campaign before they start their Serie A campaign against Bologna on August 21.

AC Milan vs Barcelona - MIL vs BAR - Blaugrana are looking to extend their win tally in Club Friendlies before they begin their season

Barcelona ended their season on a good note with two trophies in their bag last time around. They won the La Liga title after 4 seasons with a 10-point lead from 2nd-placed Real Madrid at the end of the season. They won the Spanish Supercup trophy while also reaching the Copa Del Rey semi-finals. Their domestic form did not reflect in European competitions as they were knocked out of the Champions League from the group stage. As they were selected for the Europa League, they got knocked out from the playoff round.

Barcelona are determined to give more competition in European tournaments this season. They started good preparation with a 2-0 win against Vissel Kobe in their first pre-season friendly. Following that, falling victim to viral gastroenteritis, they had to cancel their second friendly and they lost 5-3 against Arsenal in their next friendly. Their next and last friendly was against Real Madrid which they won by a 3-0 margin. This is to be their last friendly before they face Tottenham Hotspur for the Joan Gamper Trophy. Then they start their La Liga campaign against Getafe on August 14.

AC Milan Team News

  • AC Milan brought on 7 new players in this transfer window – Luka Romero, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Marco Sportiello, Noah Okafor, Tijjani Reijnders, and Samuel Chukwueze. The coach is expected to have the new signings along with most of the squad available to him against Barcelona except for Davide Calabria. He was sent off with an injury in their last match against Juventus.
  • Other than Calabria, they have no fresh injury concerns. New arrival Pulisic could join star forward Rafael Leao in the final third alongside Olivier Giroud. Another new signing Luka Romero will probably start this match on the bench another time against the Spanish champions. He could get some playing time later on if the coach decides to make wholesale changes.
  • Even if coach Pioli decides to make several changes to the match, it seems unlikely that he will make many changes to the starting XI that started against Juventus. Amongst the few changes that he could make are introducing Alessandro Florenzi in the right-back position and Tommaso Pogba in the midfield.

Barcelona Team News

  • In this transfer window, despite their financial barriers, Barcelona have made some significant inclusions to the team and are still looking to add more talented players to the squad. So far, Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, and Oriol Romeu have joined the ranks. Similar to AC Milan, coach Xavi will have most of his squad available to him barring a few injuries.
  • New arrival Martinez is yet to make his debut for Barcelona as he’s still recovering from a stubborn foot injury. Andreas Christensen and another new signing Gundogan both sustained fresh injuries during their friendly El Clasico. Both players were taken off with muscular issues and probably will not be involved in their next match against AC Milan.
  • Coach Xavi will probably make only a few changes to the starting XI that started in the El Clasico. Raphinha and Sergi Roberto could be included in the starting lineup. This could see Pedri drop deeper into the midfield making way for them. Even though there are major transfer rumours surrounding Ousmane Dembele, he could still be involved in the match.
