The defensive midfielder who joined Manchester United from Chelsea in 2017 for a reported price of £31 million has been a reliable servant for the club. Matic last signed a new two-year contract with the club in 2020 that runs down in 2022.

The evergreen midfielder has made 183 appearances for the Red since making his transfer from Stamford Bridge. Having made 26 appearances his season, mostly coming on as a substitute from the bench, the player announced his decision of parting ways with the club on Instagram.

“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision,” Matic said.
“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.
“I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”
Nemanja Matic has made 122 Premier League appearances for the cub and has played under the regime of four different managers. He was bought by Jose Mourinho who was then succeeded by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer followed by Michael Carrick and lastly by Ralf Rangnick.

The ex Serbian international player made appearances in two major finals for Manchester United which unfortunately came in losing efforts. Matic was a part of the United squad that played against Chelsea in the 2018 FA Cup finals which the Blues won owing to an Eden Hazard penalty. Matic also played in the finals of the Europa League 2021 which United lost in penalties.
Manchester United are currently placed sixth in the Premier League and is desperate to pave their way inside the top 4 to guarantee their spot for the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming season. Manchester United will take on Norwich on Saturday and will hope to earn 3-points against the weak Canaries.
