Manchester United are reportedly willing to triple Antoine Griezmann’s Atletico Madrid wages in order to entice him to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have had their worst season start in 61 years. They are now sixth in the Premier League table and face elimination from the Champions League in the group stages. Erik ten Hag is now looking to bolster his squad in January, with many stars already on his wishlist.
This is not the first time that Antoine Griezmann has been linked to the Red Devils. It hasn’t quite worked out in the past. But now, it seems as though his release clause is low and this move could be a possibility.
Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United?
According to Catalan source El Nacional, Griezmann is a key target for Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United. The officials of the Red Devils have flown to Spain to meet with the Frenchman’s entourage about a possible deal.
Manchester United have reportedly offered to increase Griezmann’s Atletico Madrid wage, which will bring his weekly salary to about £350,000, in an effort to entice him to the Premier League. The striker is an affordable target, since the source also states that he has a release clause at £21.9 million (€25 million).
Griezmann completed a £24 million move from Real Sociedad to Atletico Madrid in 2014. After Barcelona exercised his £105 million buy-out clause in 2019, he signed with them. However his performance suffered. In 2021, the striker made a season-long loan back to Atletico Madrid before concluding a permanent transfer the following year.

For the Spanish powerhouses, he has tallied 169 goals and contributed 77 assists. Atletico Madrid will be hoping that they don’t lose a quality player like Griezmann.
Fabrizio Romano gives update
In the midst of Manchester United’s rumoured pursuit of Antonie Griezmann, Fabrizio Romano has disclosed what he has been told. Man United is reportedly monitoring Griezmann of Atletico Madrid in order to strengthen their attacking options before the January transfer window reopens, according to reports in Spain.
Romano, who says he is in love with Atletico, has refuted rumours that the Frenchman may leave Spain in January. He said, ‘For Griezmann, I want to clarify that he is not leaving Atletico Madrid,” he said. “From what I am told, he is in love with Atletico Madrid – the city, the fans, his teammates, the coach [Diego] Simeone. He is not leaving.’

He continued, ‘He was approached by Saudi clubs in the summer and he decided to reject them, not even to negotiate because he was in love with life at Atletico. I don’t think he is going to be tempted by any offers from around Europe, especially in January.’
