Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag sorry for fans after 3-0 loss in EFL Cup

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag says that he feels sorry for United fans after latest 3-0 loss in EFL Cup

Erik Ten Hag has expressed his sympathy for Manchester United fans following their latest defeat. The Red Devils’ poor start in 61 years continued as they were defeated 3-0 by Newcastle at Old Trafford. This was their second 3-0 defeat in as many games. On Sunday, the Manchester Derby went the way of Pep Guardiola’s men. The misery continues on for the Red Devils and Erik Ten Hag recognizes the same too.

Manchester United in dire straits

On Wednesday night, goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock knocked Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup. Fans and journalists panned the home team’s performance, with Gary Neville accusing them of “sleeping” before one of the visitors’ goals.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount was thrashed on social media after another terrible night for his new team. Ten Hag’s team has now lost eight of their first 15 matches this season, a feat last accomplished in 1962/63.

For the first time since 1930/31, the team has lost five of ten home games. The Newcastle setback comes on the heels of Manchester United’s humiliating Manchester derby defeat on Sunday. Their loss on Sunday was when they lost three or more home games in a row for the first time since October 1962.

The Magpies’ victory was their greatest at Old Trafford since a 7-4 victory in September 1930. After the game, Erik Ten Hag said, ‘We know it’s not good enough. We have to take responsibility for it. I have to take responsibility for it. I feel sorry for the fans. It was below our standards and we have to put it right.’

He continued, ‘We have to recover from it and we have to do it quickly. Saturday is the next game [against Fulham] and we have to raise our standards. This is not good enough.’

But things might get worse for the under-pressure Manchester United manager. Five of their next six matches in all competitions taking place away from home. His team will seek to rebound against Fulham before travelling to Denmark to face Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Following the visit of Luton Town on November 11, there will be away games against Everton, Galatasaray, and Newcastle.

United face Adidas jersey issues

Manchester United players are wearing replica kits during matches right now. According to reports, their Adidas gear is too small for them. Many reports coming out say that the players have not been too happy with the same.

After receiving concerns from some of Erik ten Hag’s players, who have not worn the official home socks since the second game of the season, the kitwear manufacturer is now looking into a solution.

Andre Onana, Manchester United’s new £47.1 million acquisition, has also had concerns with his jersey. Onana had been wearing a shirt built exclusively for players, with a closer fit than those made accessible to fans. But he found it too tight and has now switched to a looser, replica version, according to sources.

Ten Hag and Manchester United’s kit crew have also received complaints from players that the socks are excessively tight around their calves. Some players cut holes in their socks too. But the move to fan-issue socks has been adopted as a stopgap measure since the 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on August 19.
