Boos ring out around Old Trafford as United have been held to a goalless draw. The hosts had plenty of opportunities to find the net, but Ronaldo, Fernandes and Elanga were all guilty of misfiring. Watford hung in there to keep a clean sheet and secure a valuable point.
Manchester United failed to break down a resilient Watford side as they dropped two crucial points in their quest to finish in the top four. Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post in the first ten minutes before Bruno Fernandes turned Paul Pogba’s cross wide from six yards out with the keeper beaten.
Ronaldo also came close in the second half but failed to make proper contact with a cross from six yards out with Ben Foster able to get on to the ball before it trickled over the line.
Jadon Sancho came off the bench to fire just over from 25 yards out but Roy Hodgson’s men held out and almost stole the win themselves in stoppage time but Ismalia Sarr’s shot from the edge of the area flew wide.
Manchester United remain in fourth but Arsenal now sit just two points behind with three games in hand.
