Manchester Derby Player Ratings: City take charge and dominate United, Manchester United vs Manchester City- Match reaction and player ratings, MUN vs MCI- Manchester City completely outplayed Manchester United in the 1st Manchester Derby of the season, it looked as if it were men vs boys. Solskjaer again started with 3 center-backs in defense which caused serious issues. United failed to have any sort of attacking influence in the match, their primary width options, the wingbacks were pinned back by City’s attacking line, which allowed City to be on the front foot the whole game.

Despite being 2-0 down after the 1st half, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s kept playing with 2 defensive midfielders, his managerial decisions once again failed to have any sort of impact on the match. This is Norwegian’s 2nd consecutive home loss, now Manchester United have lost 5-0 to Liverpool and 2-0 to Manchester City in the space of 15 days. The performances of all United players were appalling, except David De Gea, who tried his best to keep United in the game all by himself. Every single City player did well, especially the frontline, so here are the player ratings of the players that participated in the game-

Manchester United:

David De Gea: 7.5

In many people’s opinion United’s player of the season so far, the Spaniard was United’s Man of the Match by a country mile. The Spain international had a splendid evening for the Red Devils, bar once mistake. The game had a period of 10 minutes, just before half-time where the Manchester United shot-stopper saved 5 shots all of which were goal-bound.

Aaron Wan Bissaka: 4

The Englishman is often known for his sound defending, but this time he looked a shadow of himself, he was regularly getting skipped by Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden. The Right-back often lost his composure and kept on losing the ball. His displayed 0 positional awareness in this game.

 Victor Lindeloff: 4.5

The Swedish defender nearly scored Manchester United’s second own goal, when he’s stuck his foot out to block a cross. The United defender was brought straight back into the team, after he was injured last week and due to this fact, the center-back looked wildly off  pace, he was very weak in tackling. He kept on misplacing passes the whole match.

Eric Baily: 4

The Ivorian scored a horrendous own goal, Eric Baily who was brought back in the side for the Atalanta game, started this game as United’s 2 center-back. Despite scoring an own goal he looked the best out of the 3 center-backs, he was quick to scuff out danger and resolute in tackling. He was subbed-off at half time, he was replaced by Jadon Sancho.

Harry Maguire: 2.5

Perhaps United most out of form player, Harry Maguire looked lost on the field. He looked weak airily. He was responsible for City’s 2nd goal, he didn’t clear the ball when he had the opportunity to do so. The United captain looked extremely off the pace, he was even mis-placing easy passes.

Luke Shaw: 4

The left-back also was at fault for City’s 2nd goal along with Harry Maguire, he too had the opportunity to clear the ball before it could reach Bernardo Silva. Luke Shaw looked a shadow of the player that was playing brilliantly at the Euros. Later in the 2nd half he was  replaced by Alex Telles as he limped off with a head injury.

Fred: 4.5

Fred worked hard to win the ball back. However he appaling in possession, he misplaced a lot of passes which put pressure straight back on the Red Devils. He Couldn’t impose himself on the game, the Brazilian was regularly dribbled past by City players.

Scott Mc Tominay: 4.5

A similar performance to Fred, Mc Tominay tried to drive the ball up-field, but his efforts failed to have any sort of impact on the match. He failed to have a real defensive presence in the match. He was not at all robust today.

Bruno Fernandez: 5

The Portuguese mid-fielder didn’t get on the ball enough to display his attacking creativity , he tried to rally his teammates at times to get up the field and attack, he was wasteful when he had the ball.

Mason Greenwood: 5

The Manchester United academy graduate’s inclusion ahead of Marcus Rashford came as a surprise to many, he finally got to play to in his favored position as a center forward, despite this fact he looked lost on the field and he had no chances to show his attacking capabilities.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6

Manchester United Starman Cristiano Ronaldo failed to bail United out of trouble this time. He was starved of any service and chances, Ronaldo very nearly produced a special moment when he connected with a Luke Shaw cross and volleyed it with his left-foot but it went straight to Ederson.

Manchester City:

Ederson: 6

Made one good stop from Cristiano Ronaldo’s volley. Didn’t have much else to do.

Kyle Walker: 7.5

Solid defensively, he snuffed out any danger that appeared on the right flank, he neutralized the attacking talents of his fellow English international teammates- Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford. He was a threat in attack, the Englishman was adventurous going forward, he whipped in a great cross just before the first goal.

John Stones: 6

His job made quite easy due to the lack of attacking endeavors of United, he was hardly troubled. Stones as usual was quite calm on the ball.

Ruben Dias: 6.5

The Portuguese was immense at the back, he cleared everything that United put in the box, he kept things moving for the cityzens.

Joao Cancelo: 9 (MOTM)

The best player on the pitch, The Portuguese right-back turned left-back put on a fantastic display. He whipped in 2 great crosses for both of City’s goals. He dealt with the danger of Manchester United forwards quite easily and kept of bombing down the left-flank.

Ilkay Gundogan: 6.5

City’s captain didn’t have his best display today, despite this fact he kept on making line-breaking runs and kept on getting in the box, he had a brilliant opportunity to score but his touch was a little bit heavy which took the opportunity away from him. The German kept things ticking over for Guardiola’s side.

Rodri: 7

Held things together masterfully in midfield and controlled the pace of the game, he was solid as ever. The former Atletico Madrid man looks to have finally found his feet in Pep Guardiola’s system.

Bernardo Silva: 8.5

The Portuguese playmaker has arguably been City’s best player this season and his fine season continues. City’s genius mid-field wizard guaranteed all 3 points for City when he squeezed home a goal right on half time to essentially seal the win.

Gabriel Jesus: 6.5

Brazilian should have scored early in game, but ended up missing. He lost the ball a few times when he was rushing passes out wide on the right. But worked hard defensively, his constant pressing caused United a lot of problems.

Kevin de Bruyne: 7

Denied by De Gea and shanked another effort wide. Didn’t run the game like he usually does for City, but he was good enough to put United to the sword, the Belgian looks to working his way back to his best. He enjoyed a quite Comfortable outing

Phil Foden: 8

Gave Wan Bissaka an extremely hard time, the young Englishman was amazing going down the left wing. He nearly scored a brilliant goal if it just a few centimeters inside the post.
