Manchester City's Happy Onam post featuring Erling Haaland has gone viral on Social Media

Manchester City: The Instagram message from English Premier League team Manchester City wishing everyone a happy Onam in Malayalam quickly gained popularity online and warmed the hearts of the locals. Manchester City sent out a Malayalam “Happy Onam” greeting to all Malayalees. This caused the Instagram image to go viral and increase the club’s supporter base in Kerala.

Manchester City wishes everyone Happy Onam

The background of the photo, which focuses on Erling Haaland, a famous footballer, as he bites into a fried pappadam while wearing a blue jersey. This immediately caught the attention of Malayalees all over the world.

Kerala Tourism reposted the image on Facebook too. Their post said, ‘The team with 32 major honours in the English Premier League wishes all Malayalees a happy Onam. Manchester City has quite a dedicated Malayalee following all over the world.’

This, too, earned a flurry of congratulations, a Kerala Tourism statement said here on Thursday. Kerala Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas commented on the post on Thursday too. His comment stated that football has long been a part of the state’s athletic tradition. It has now attracted yet another note of goodwill from outside the country.

He said, ‘Manchester City is among the world’s top football clubs and they have dedicated followers in Kerala as well.’

The Instagram image essentially serves as the club’s way of expressing its gratitude to us, the minister continued.

While Onam, Kerala’s harvest festival, embodies the egalitarian spirit of cross-cultural camaraderie, analysts point out that Manchester City’s Onam post is an example of how a football team can reach beyond its conventional fan base and attract people from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.

The 143-year-old club, according to one critic, is making a “concerted effort to connect with its fans in Kerala and the surrounding region.” Based on his speed, strength, positioning, and box-to-box finishing, Norwegian striker Haaland, 23, is regarded as one of the best footballers in the world. He plays for Manchester City.

Chelsea’s post for Kerala

This kind of experience is not the first for Kerala and its tourists. The football giant Chelsea FC visited Alappuzha virtually five months ago and praised how beautiful the state’s backwater wonderland was, according to the statement.

The caption of the post said, ‘The beauty of Kerala! The Blues visit the scenic backwater of Alleppey as part of the virtual tour.’ This was posted on March 20 by the London club.

This post continues the trend of English teams trying to gain more foothold in the sub-continent. Lately, a lot of top teams have been pushing out India-related content. This trend doesn’t look like it will subside anytime soon.
