Man United Transfer: Fred has been linked with the move away from Manchester United for a few months now. He has attracted interest from several clubs, like Fulham, Roma, and a few Saudi clubs. As per reports, Fulham seem to be in the lead to sign the 30-year-old midfielder if they manage to pay Man United his asking price of £20 million. Fred has also changed his agents. He will now be represented by the same agency as the Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus, namely Energy Sports.

Fred came to Manchester United back in 2018 from Shakhtar Donetsk on a huge £52 million transfer fee. However, in his 5 years at the club, he failed to make a mark on several Man United managers. Similarly, under current coach Erik Ten Hag, he did not start many games. Even though he was featured in 56 games throughout all competitions last season, he started only 23 games among them. As a result, his averaged at only about 41 minutes per game.
Fred’s contract with the club expires at the end of the upcoming season. Man United have shown no interest in extending Fred’s contract. However, they will not let him go as a free agent next season. Hence, they put him on the list of players who they are ready to sell this transfer window. They are sure to lose a lot of money in this transfer as they have put an asking price of £20 million. However, with Man United’s willingness to sell the player, that price can probably be negotiated.
Fred has mainly garnered interest from Roma, Fulham, and a few Saudi clubs. Roma boss Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in reuniting with the player. Whereas, Saudi clubs are the ones that can easily pay Man United’s asking price. As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Fred wants a ‘more important role’ to play at his new club. Hence, Fulham who might have to negotiate with the Red Devils to bring down the transfer fee, seem to be currently leading the race.

Even though, his performance has not been impressive last season, it does not justify his overall quality. It seemed that was recognized by the current Fulham coach Marcus Silva. He stepped out of Fulham’s team bus in June after their match against Man United to personally talk to Fred. Hence, it will be a surprise if Fred decides to join the London club. As per Romano, Fulham will soon a bid for Fred. However, they will have to fight off competitions from Saudi clubs.
Although, in the end, the decision will be up to Fred where he wants to go. The Red Devils recently signed Mason Mount from Chelsea on a £50 million transfer fee plus £5 million in add-ons. Man United will need to make place for the high-voltage player who has been given the no.7 shirt. Additionally, they are also chasing Internazionale’s goalkeeper Andre Onana who will cost them a lot. Hence, they will also have to cash in by selling a midfielder and currently, Fred seems to be the top contender for that.
