Manchester United are urgently looking for a short-term solution for their vacant left-back position. Their first-choice left-back is Luke Shaw who sustained a muscle injury during training last week. It might take him over a month to get better. Additionally, their backup left-back Tyrell Malacia is also injured. As per reports, a few players have been offered to Man United for the position. Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur, and Marcos Alonso from Barcelona are three of those players.
Manchester United are in backfoot with their first-choice left-back Luke Shaw now injured. The 28-year-old sustained a muscular injury last week during training. Reportedly, it will take him around 6 weeks to recover from the injury. In the meantime, Man United’s backup left-back Tyrell Malacia is also injured. Malacia will also take a few more weeks to recover. Hence, the Red Devils could have to work without a natural left-back for the first few weeks of the season. Diogo Dalot played in the position in their last match.
However, the versatile player struggled in the position against Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. As a result, the Red Devils are now forced to look for a short-term solution. They are considering bringing in someone till Shaw and Malacia recover. Reportedly, a few players are being offered by clubs for a short amount of time as loan options. Reportedly, Chelsea are offering Marc Cucurella, Tottenham Hotspur are offering Sergio Reguilon, and Barcelona are offering Marcos Alonso. However, apparently, Alonso does not want to leave Barcelona.
The Red Devils are also considering the 34-year-old Ryan Bertrand as a temporary replacement for Shaw. The defender spent 10 years in Chelsea playing in their 2012 Champions League’s final win. However, since Bertrand left Southampton in 2021, he has been plagued with injuries. Hence, Man United might need to think it through as to whether they want to bring him as injured Shaw’s replacement.
In the meantime, reportedly Chelsea and Man United already held informal talks over Marc Cucurella. Chelsea are considering letting Cucurella leave on loan. If agreed, Man United could bring him in on a short-term loan deal till January. It is understood that Man United prefer Cucurella over Reguilon and Alonso. Additionally, there is a doubt whether Spurs will loan a player to their league rivals. The transfer window is also closing on September 1, so Man United don’t have a lot of time on their hands.
