Man City submits £86m bid to make Gvardiol most expensive defender in world

Man City is ready to go with all strength to sign Gvardiol with a new bid of €100m (£86m). It will make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in the world.

Josko Gvardiol transfer: Manchester City are pushing hard to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig and the deal is likely to happen. Man City has offered a €100m (£86m) transfer fee to make the 21-year-old the most expensive defender in the world.

The Cityzens have been linked with the Bundesliga ace throughout the summer and they are not in the mood to lose the battle. RB Leipzig rejected Man City’s bid worth £77m ($99m). The German club have been holding out for £86m and finally, Man City is open to meet this figure. As per reports, their current bid is worth £77m plus £9m ($10m) in add-ons.

Man City has offered a €100m (£86m) transfer fee to make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in the world surpassing Harry Maguire.

The 21-year-old defender is likely to move to Etihad. Leipzig is yet to accept this offer from Man City. The Bundesliga club wants more realistic goals to be included in the £9m add-ons. If this deal gets to happen, Gvardiol will beat Harry Maguire to become the most expensive defender. Maguire moved to Man United from Leicester City for a total of £80m ($97m) in 2019.

RB Leipzig is not feeling any pressure to sell out their best player. They have recently sold out Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool. One thing is important in Gvardiol’s contract is a release clause worth €112m (£96m/$124m) that activates next summer. It means the German club could attempt to keep him for one more year.

Still, Leipzig have to finalise this deal as they also need to find a replacement for the 21-year-old defender. They would try to reach the final call before the deadline. Meanwhile, Man City are optimistic to reach the final process of this deal. They want this deal to be done before the opening game of the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s men will kick off their title defense on August 11 against Burnley.
