Scorers: Jota 34′, 86′; A dominant start by Liverpool paid off just after the half-hour mark. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s trademark corner is met by the towering Virgil van Dijk and despite a good save by Kasper Schmeichel, he can’t keep the ball out as Diogo Jota is on hand to score the rebound.

It wasn’t all their way though. The big chance of the game had fallen to Leicester when James Maddison was slipped in, his shot from a tight angle on his left foot was well saved by Alisson.

Leicester struggled to deal with Liverpool’s set-pieces all game. Robertson’s corner for the hosts, after a Diaz shot was saved by Schmeichel, is headed back into the six-year area by a totally unmarked van Dijk but Jota, under pressure, could only fire over the bar.

Not ready to begin the game Mo Salah’s introduction was always going to spell trouble for the visitors. The Egyptian had a few chances to double the hosts lead but Schmeichel, and the crossbar, were up to the task.

In the end, with the hosts’ relentless pressure, the second goal came. Liverpool won the ball high up the field and worked it to Joel Matip, still up for a corner, who slid in a delicious ball for Jota to double his tally and the score.
