Lionel Messi to take TIME OFF from international DUTIES following Inter Miami move?

Lionel Messi could be taking a 1-year break from international duties. As per reports, he has already informed Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and the official Argentina.

Lionel Messi: Lionel Messi won the most coveted trophy with Argentina last year. He won the World Cup for his nation after 36 years. Since then, he has left PSG and is joining the MLS side Inter Miami. After spending his entire career in Europe, such a drastic change will require his full focus if he wants to succeed there as well. As per reports, keeping that in mind, Leo Messi is now set to take a break from international duties for about a year.

As per reports, Lionel Messi has already talked to Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni regarding his wish to take a break from international duties. Apparently, Scaloni and the Argentinian Football Federation have taken this news quite hard. However, they will be considering the player’s request following his contribution in the World Cup win last year. Apparently, the player wants to take a break of 12 months from international duties. Reportedly, he wants to continue his legacy in MLS and succeed with Inter Miami.

However unlikely to happen, this will still come as good news to Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham. He was a key figure in Messi’s transfer to the MLS club. Inter Miami are currently at the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference table in 15th position. Messi will have a tough road ahead if he wants to carry them to the top and win trophies with the team. However, he will have some help from his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets. Beckham has already fired Phil Neville, his former teammate from the coaching position.

While Messi wanting to move his entire focus to Inter Miami will be music to Beckham’s ears, it will cause headache to Argentina football fraternity. Especially considering that they have a major tournament approaching next year. After winning the trophy last time around in 2021, they are now the defending champions. Additionally, after winning the World Cup only last year, they are still one of the favourites to win the Copa America another time next year. However, it can become tougher if Messi stays absent during the tournament.

Lionel Messi could take some time off from Argentina duties, Leo Messi wants to focus completely on MLS club Inter Miami and on his family

Lionel Messi won football’s most coveted trophy with Argentina last year. Before that, they  won the Copa America in 2021 and then the Finalissima the next year. The Finalissima is held between the European champions and the Copa America champions. They went up against Italy, the Euro 2020 winters and came out as winners. Argentina were able to keep an impressive 36-match unbeaten streak as they approached the 2022 World Cup. However, they were defeated in the first match of the tournament.

Since then, the team turned it around and then went on to win the World Cup. Additionally, they have established another winning streak from then on and still have a chance of winning next year’s Copa America. However, even though it is highly unlikely, if Messi still really takes a 12-month break at this point, winning another trophy will not come easy for the rest of the team. Still, Lionel Messi is also extremely close to his family and loves them. Hence, it’s no surprise that he wants to spend more time with them.
