Lionel Messi is set to feature in an animated series from Sony. The show is inspired by his life and career with Inter Miami and Argentina. The cartoon series will be called ‘Messi and the Giants’. Messi will be the main character of the series. He will play the part of a 12-year-old boy facing challenges and obstacles throughout the series. The series will be available in several languages and it’s being produced exclusively by Sony with their original music artists and composers.

Messi will play the role of a 12-year-old kid who will face various obstacles and challenges travelling through a video game as he tries to get to home. The series will be called ‘Messi and the Giants’. Sony will produce the series with their original music composers and artists. Joe D’Ambrosia, the EVP & General Manager of Sony Pictures Television – Kids commented on the production of the series.
He said, “Football is the only sport around the world that can inspire excitement and connection in the same way that storytelling does. What makes this series special is that it focuses on the same principles of good sportsmanship…it’s about perseverance, resilience, teamwork, and believing in yourself. We’ve enjoyed working with Leo and the entire team at Sony Music on this creative collaboration, and we’re looking forward to sharing more about this thoughtful and inspiring series to our broadcast and platform partners later this month.”
The EVP, Business Development of Latin-Iberia, Don’t Music Entertainment, Fernando Cabral also added to D’Ambrosia’s comment saying, “We’re thrilled to present Messi and the Giants at MIPCOM, the global market for entertainment content. With our partners at Sony Pictures Television – Kids, we can’t wait to share the vision and creative direction behind this inspirational series with full support from Leo and his incredible team.” Sony confirmed that the series will be available in several languages including English, Spanish, and a few others.
This wasn’t the first time that Messi was featured in a show. There have been numerous shows previously on his life and career including documentaries, animated shows, and short animated films from small production houses that went viral on social media. Messi’s life has been tough and inspirational, to say the least. He was a force to be reckoned with since he was small. However, he was then diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency at 11 years of age. This could’ve ended his career before it started.
Barcelona became his saviour at such a stage. The Argentine went on to create history from there on. He won 4 Champions League with Barcelona, while lost 4 major finals with Argentina. Then he turned it around to win 3 major international titles including last year’s World Cup with his country. His life story itself is like a fairy tale, so it inspires several shows and movies. Additionally, Messi appeared in one episode of an Argentine TV show named ‘Los Protectores’ a few months ago.
