Lionel Messi: After completing two of the biggest transfers in their history, Inter Miami have now hired Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino as their new coach. Martino will reunite with both Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets. Gerardo Martino has coached Messi twice before and Busquets once. He will be looking forward to taking on the job and the challenge to bring Inter Miami to the top. He will have a tough job ahead considering their performance this season. However, he will have a lot of help from his old proteges.

Inter Miami have recently revealed that they have hired Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino as their new coach. Their last coach was Phil Neville who was fired about a month ago. Inter Miami are at the bottom of the barrel. They have only 5 wins, no draws, and 13 defeats this season in the MLS Eastern Conference. Martino was brought on with the intention of winning titles with the powerful team that they are building this season. It will include the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.
Messi decided to join Inter Miami after two seasons with PSG. During his announcement, he explained how unhappy he was in France. He seemed to have plans to move back to Barcelona. However, that deal fell through and he joined the MLS club. Only the last few details of Messi’s deal are being drawn out. It will be done before his scheduled debut with Inter Miami on July 21st. He will be working under Tata Martino for the third time. He even reached the 2016 Cope America final under Martino which Argentina eventually lost.
Martino was linked with a move to Inter Miami before their arrival. Before his stint as the Mexico head coach, Martino worked in the MLS for two years with Atlanta United. He even helped them win the MLS Championship in 2018. Martino will try to do similar work at Inter Miami as well with help from Messi and Busquets. He has worked with Messi twice previously – once with Argentina between 2014 to 2016 and once with Barcelona in the 2013-14 season. He also coached Busquets when he was in Barcelona.

Hence, it will be a reunion for both the players with the coach. Welcoming Tata Martino to the club, Inter Miami’s managing owner Jorge Mas said, “We are very happy to be able to welcome Tata to Inter Miami. We feel he is a coach who matches our ambitions as a club and we’re optimistic about what we can accomplish together. Tata has coached at the highest levels and we believe that experience will be hugely beneficial to us as we aim to compete for titles here.”
The club’s co-owner David Beckham added, “Tata is a highly respected figure in our sport whose track record speaks for itself. We are confident that his achievements in the game and experience as a head coach will inspire our team and excite our fans and look forward to seeing the impact he will have on and off the field.” Both owners are bringing in ace players and coaching staff to go at the top of the table and win trophies with their help.
