Lionel Messi currently is the third most followed account on the social media platform. And over the last weekend he went on to go past the landmark 500 million followers mark. Only two accounts have more followers than the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Lionel Messi has seen a massive surge on followers ever since his advent to USA. Last summer Messi left PSG and joined MLS side Inter Miami on a free transfer. The Argentine star also has his fair share of following on the social media platform. He holds the most liked picture on the platform – his World Cup celebration pic which has over 75.5 million likes.
Messi now becomes the second human being to have crossed 500 million followers on Instagram. As athletes he occupies the second spot in the list. Virat Kohli, Neymar and LeBron James complete the list of top 5 most followed athlete on the platform. Inter Miami began their MLS journey with a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
