Lamine Yamal, a wonderkid from Barcelona, had a historic night under the lights but was forced to miss some of it to go to the loo. And at the age of 16 years and 83 days, he broke Celestine Babayaro’s previous record for the youngest player to start a Champions League game.

Lamine Yamal forced to go out during game to use the loo

The youngster, Lamine Yamal took advantage of the opportunity to use the loo in the middle of the game since Barca had a 1-0 lead courtesy to Ferran Torres’ injury-time goal in the first half. In the 71st minute the teenager left the pitch to go to the toilet.

But Lamine Yamal never came back onto the pitch. In the 80th minute, after Barca had played with just 10 men for almost ten minutes, he was forcibly substituted off. After the game, manager Xavi told the young player what had transpired.

Xavi said, ‘Lamine Yamal was unwell. He had an illness, he had been telling me for a while. I took advantage of a break to tell him to be quick and go to the toilet, but in the end they told me that he wouldn’t be able to get back on the pitch.’

Despite Gavi’s dismissal in stoppage time, the LaLiga team was able to finish the game. With two victories from two games, Barcelona now leads Group H. This season, Lamine Yamal has broken other records in addition to the record for appearances in the Champions League.

He set a new record for the youngest goal scorer in Spain during the September international break.

Yamal names ex-Real Madrid player as idol

Unexpectedly, Lamine Yamal of Barcelona selected former Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio as his childhood hero. At only 16 years old, Yamal has had an impressive start to life with the Blaugrana senior team. When he came off the bench in a 4-0 victory against Real Betis in April, he made his La Liga debut at the age of 16, becoming the club’s youngest player ever. He is also the youngest player for the Catalan giants in the current century.

Since Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal is seen to be the most intriguing graduate of Barcelona’s La Masia programme. He has already made an impression this season, contributing two assists in four league contests.

When he was younger, Asensio had a similar climb with Real Madrid and had his own outstanding debut performance. He scored on his debuts in the Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, and La Liga.

Lamine Yamal said, ‘A player in the Spanish NT? There are many great players here, but I have been following Marco Asensio since he joined the National Team for the first time.’
