La Liga: Barcelona’s £1.27BILLION Loan! Laporta confirms plans to rejuvenate Camp Nou after taking a massive loan- After Barcelona’s economic crisis was laid bare by Joan Laporta with the LaLiga giants in £1.15billion of debt. The club president revealed the daunting figures after the Catalans played their first LaLiga match since Messi’s departure. However, taking a £1.27BILLION Loan is in the plans.

Joan Laporta was candid about the appalling situation of FC Barcelona’s economics which pushed Lionel Messi away from the Catalan side. He went on to blame former club president Josep Bartomeu for Messi Barcelona’s exit and held his council of directors accountable for the poor running of the club. Pointing out at the countless “lies”, Laporta unveiled how the club is now left with an abrogating net worth of $532 million.

La Liga: Barcelona’s plans to play in a new stadium

Barcelona will play at another stadium for up to a year when the club starts its planned reinvigorating of the Nou Camp, president Joan Laporta said on Friday.

We are considering different possibilities, but the strongest candidate is the Johan Cruyff Stadium,‘ Laporta told Catalan radio Rac1 on Friday.

The Johan Cruyff Stadium is where the women’s team plays and forms part of the club’s training complex on the outskirts of Barcelona.

With a capacity to seat only 6,000 spectators, Laporta said the club wants to increase that to 50,000 if the men’s team plays there.

La Liga: How will FC Barcelona finance this operation?

The Nou Camp is already Europe’s largest football stadium with 99,000 seats. The club wants to expand its space to 110,000 while also renovating its surrounding area, which includes a pergola for the club’s other sports, the museum, and stores.

To finance the operation, Barcelona is in talks with Goldman Sachs for the investment bank to loan the cash-strapped club £1.27bn (€1.5bn) – the financing plan needs to win a vote by the club’s members.

Laporta acquired a club in near insolvency when he won the elections in March. He had also led the club from 2003-10.

(The new Camp Nou) is fundamental for the viability of the club and its immediate future,‘ Laporta said. ‘The impact it will have for Barca is critical so that we can compete with our competitors who have already done what is needed.

Real Madrid took advantage of last year’s pandemic lockdown when no fans could attend matches in Spain, to spruce up its Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
