Kolkata Derby: East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan exchange pre match blows regarding ticket pricing fiasco ahead of Big Game

Ahead of the Kolkata Derby, drama continues to engulf arch rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The hosts for this derby, East Bengal released a statement claiming that they have revised the prices. But Mohun Bagan were prompt to hit back hard claiming East Bengal’s allegations in their release are false.

What Exactly Happened?

As reported by InsideSport earlier, there was a major disparity regarding the ticket prices. East Bengal being the hosts of the match were tasked to reveal the prices for the match. The Red and Gold brigade announced reduced ticket prices for their fans while a higher price was set for the away tickets.

Earlier, in the month when Mohun Bagan hosted the derby, the ticket pricing for each team was deemed equal. Naturally, the Mariners hit back hard at East Bengal. The club asked their fans and supporters to threaten boycotting the match owing to unequal ticket prices.

East Bengal’s Reply To Ticket Fiasco

We understand that ticket price disparities occur in the realm of football events, and indeed, such practices are commonplace worldwide. Notably, Mohan Bagan Club implemented a similar strategy on February 3rd, 2024, offering discounts to their devoted fans. In line with promoting transparency, we also introduced a discount structure on our ticket prices.

We hereby announce that any discrepancies in ticket pricing for the Derby match on March 10th, 2024, will be corrected with immediate effect. Going forward, uniform pricing will be implemented for all attendees of this highly anticipated event.

East Bengal fearing backlash decided to mediate the situation. They went on to claim that uniform pricing will be maintained in future matches. But the Red and Gold brigade went on to claim that Mohun Bagan too implemented a similar tactic in the previous derby.

Mohun Bagan Hits Back Hard

Mohun Bagan didn’t take the incident likely. They immediately hit hard at their opponents claiming the allegations were false and untrue. The Mariners went on to clarify that they indeed sold bulk tickets to the supporters.

The highly anticipated East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan Kolkata Derby is slated to take place on 10th March at the Salt Lake Stadium from 8:30 PM.
