England and Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher expressed his sympathy for Erling Haaland who might feel ‘robbed’ after Lionel Messi has reported been revealed as the Ballon d’Or 2023 winner. While Carragher believed Messi was the favourite to win the title, he also knew Erling Haaland would feel snubbed.
Carragher took to his official X account, stating, “I won the CL in 2005 like Haaland this season, he will rightly feel how I did then, robbed!!!”
Last season, the Manchester City striker put on a spectacular performance, smashing record after record. He was an important part of the team’s victory. City won the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. Haaland even put spectacular performance to guide City to their first treble.
Carragher drew comparisons to the 2005 Ballon d’Or rankings after learning that the former Liverpool defender finished tied with Cristiano Ronaldo in the poll. Carragher was ranked 20th, with an 18-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, with each receiving one vote. Despite playing a major part in Liverpool’s Champions League success in 2005, Carragher was overlooked.
Messi is anticipated to defeat Erling Haaland’s challenge. Despite scoring a club-record 52 goals for Manchester City last season, guiding the team to a triple.
