Mikel Camps is the deputy spokesperson for the Barcelona board of directors. He went on social media to release a claim which denies any racist activity against Vinicius Jr in La Liga. Meanwhile, he deleted his post on X (Twitter). The tweet was already taken by news outlets.

Vinicius Jr claimed that he was abused on racism but the Barcelona spokesperson denied it. Mikel Camps even said he "deserves a slap".

Mikel Camps said after Real Madrid’s Champions League win over Braga, “It’s not racism, he [Vinicius] deserves a slap for being a clown. What do these unnecessary and meaningless stepovers represent in the center of the field?”

This battle continues with the addition of Vinicius’ team-mate Rodrygo who issued a reply after the game and spoke to El Chriniguito TV: “I don’t know if I can speak, they always encourage us not to speak, but it’s pathetic. There’s not much to say, very ugly.”

The whole incident started from the Real Madrid-Sevilla game which ended in a 1-1 draw. During the game, two Sevilla supporters were caught on camera making monkey gestures towards Real Madrid striker, Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian came out publicly and expressed his thoughts on the racism incident.

Vinicius issued a public statement which reads: “The face of today’s racist is plastered on websites as on many other occasions. I hope the Spanish authorities do their part and change the legislation once and for all. These people must be criminally punished too.”

The Brazilian striker had faced racism abuse several times and the Sevilla game is not the first time. Last season he was subjected to monkey chants by Valencia fans. Even four people were arrested after an effigy of Vinicius Jr was hung from a bridge. This incident really shocked all fans and Real Madrid also showed their anger on it. Real Madrid will take on Barcelona on Saturday for the first El Clasico of the season.
