The Kolkata giants are the only club in the Indian Super League campaign without a win and Rivera promises to churn up the win in the league as soon as possible. In all probability, Rivera will lead SC East Bengal in their next ISL fixture against FC Goa on Wednesday as they look to end their winless spree.

SC East Bengal started the season by appointing former Real Madrid youth team coach Manolo Diaz. But a string of poor performances saw the Spaniard lose his job. In came assistant coach Renedy Singh and things did change under him. The Red and Golds were resolute defensively as they registered two draws against a defeat. SC East Bengal held the defending champions Mumbai City FC to a 0-0 draw and almost replicated the same against Jamshedpur FC but a late Ishan Pandita winner saw the Men of Steel salvage all three points late in the game.
“This has been a very tough time for us. We are most of the time in quarantine and are only training in our rooms. We cannot do many things, but we are ready to fight for our club, to defend it on the field and try to give our best and get the first win for all of you (fans),” Rivera told ahead of the game against FC Goa.
The Red and Golds have a massive fan following all over the globe and the new coach admitted that how he got several messages and his team is chuffed to register their first win against FC Goa.
“We have received all of your messages and we want to win the first match for you as soon as possible,” he added.
However, the current ISL campaign may get suspended with several players in isolation and the organizers rescheduling games after games keeping safety and precaution in mind. SC East Bengal were also isolation and it was only a single day that they got to train and prepare for the Gaurs.
“I am very happy to reach the field but it’s sad that the players didn’t play for many days. They have to again get to the pace of playing and it’s difficult because they want to but cannot. But we will overcome everything,” he said.
SC East Bengal will look to turn the tide under their new head coach Mario Rivera as they search for three points against the Gaurs.
