ISL Season 8: SC East Bengal have had a rough outing in this season’s Indian Super League. They appointed Spanish head coach Manolo Diaz to lead the side at the start of the season. But things did not go down well for the former La Fabrica man as he had to part ways after persistent poor results. Follow all the ISL 2021-22 LIVE Updates only on InsideSport.IN

Diaz had a very striking resume where he had coached several Real Madrid players starting with Dennis Cheryshev, Casemiro, Deigo Llorente and many others. But the Spaniard failed to make a similar impact on his stint with the Red and Golds. Under his regime, SC East Bengal were winless in 8 ISL games and were languishing at the bottom of the table.

Recently in an exclusive chat with the Indian Express the former SC East Bengal coach revealed some shocking stories on the team, players and also on the team management.

Firstly the Red and Gold fans were not happy with the standard of players they brought in the transfer market. Starting from domestic players to foreigners none of them were of great quality. Manolo Diaz also reiterated the same thoughts of the supporters but also highlighted how the squad was not made by him. He also stated how the Red and Golds do not have the team to compete in the Indian Super League.

“I have already said that East Bengal does not have the level to compete in the Indian Super League (ISL). The fault lies with the management for making the squad. We can’t just only blame the players,” Diaz began.

“Besides, I did not sign any current players in the squad. I just recommended two names, one Sidoel Darren, second one was Antonio Perosevic. The squad does not have depth to compete in a top league like ISL. The team was poorly-made. Moreover, six foreigners were chosen who had no ISL experience. I should have spoken to previous coach Robbie Fowler before taking up the job,” the Spaniard explained the transfer dealings.

SC East Bengal had a very leaky defence under Manolo Diaz’s regime and there were questions raise on his understanding as he kept on playing raju Gaikwad while Adil Khan remained on the bench. Fans kept on insisting Adil Khan to play but to deaf ears. Speaking on the entire situation, Diaz made a shocking revelation. When asked whether the situation could have been handled in a more professional, the Spaniard replied, “Of course (there were allegations). Adil Khan refused to play in a game and to me, it was a very serious lack of professionalism. If you talk about his skills, I think he is a player of poor quality.”

Lastly, when asked whether there was harmony in dressing during his stint at the club, the Spaniard readily agreed. “Everything seemed perfect to me. But the management made a mess from the very beginning,” Diaz signed off.
