It was one of the crucial wins for the Mariners as they were massively short handed with only two foreigners (Tiri and Joni Kauko) available for selection. While the injury list piles up, Liston Colaco, Manvir Singh and others have taken the mantle on themselves to help the team score goals consistently and secure positive results.

Juan Ferrando was happy with the way his team played and the character they showed even after going down. But the players maintained their shape and executed their gameplan with aplomb.

When quizzed if Ferrando is happy with the final result or not, Spaniard feels that this game is in the past now as he wants to put all his focus on the next six matches. “For us, there are still six games to go. So currently my feeling is that I am thinking about the next game. To be honest, the coaching staff and players are ready for the next match. We have enough for the time to recover as the next game is on Tuesday. Our focus is on the future, not thinking about this night now,” Ferrando replied at the post match press conference.

Liston Colaco once again stole the show for the Mariners. He scored his seventh goal of the current campaign and also came up with an assist to help ATK Mohun Bagan pass the NorthEast United challenge with flying colours. But the Spanish tactician revealed that he does not tell anything special to the youngster before every game. He also highlighted how the discussion with the team are mostly tactical and feels that their hard work finally came to fruition.

“The conversation (ahead of every game) with all the players is the same. We talked about the tactical points. Because at the end different style different methodology. For me the most important is the players step by step try to understand the concepts about transitions and spaces. It’s not so easy but happy because all the coaching staff and players, want to work with my style and this is the most important,” the Spanish tactician remarked.

Lastly, the Spaniard said about the injuries to Hugo Boumus, Roy Krishna and Carl McHugh as all of them missed the match against NorthEast United. Boumous and McHugh picked up their knocks last game against Hyderabad FC. Amid all the tension and sadness Ferrando feels that it has worked as an opportunity for the other players to show their craft.

“For me, they are very important players Carl, Hugo, Willie, Roy. But for me, the most important thing is now to think about the squad. Of course, I am upset if Hugo is not here but we have Joni Kauko. If Carl was here it would be perfect for me because it for me he is like my coach inside the pitch but if Carl is not ready, we have Lenny Rodrigues and Deepak Tangri. And I am happy because sometimes it’s necessary to change some details and plan,” Ferrando asserted.
