USA started the game on strong foot since the start and could have gone up on multiple occasions. They have been putting high pressure which Iran seemingly soaked up. The first came in as early as the 11th minute when header from Pulisic was awarded way. Moments later Sargent’s shot is deflected into the direction of Weah, who, not understanding how much time he had, goes for a long-range header.

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for USA. McKennie’s fantastic play in midfield lofted Dest, who sprinted in behind the defence. He headed the ball into a dangerous area, where Pulisic scrambled it in. The United States could have found another. Sargent shot from a tight angle after taking down a diagonal well. Minutes later, it passed the far post.Weah scored from the outside of his right foot seconds before halftime, thanks to another great assist from McKennie. He was, however, declared offside.
Iran had their first shot on goal after the break. Ghoddos grabbed a fantastic cross from Gholizadeh ahead of the USA defenders. His header sailed over the crossbar. Taremi made another darting move from the left channel, eventually taking on one too many defenders and running the ball out. Matt Turner denied a crucial attempt for Iran to keep his side in the game.
