India gear up for FIFA WC qualifiers with 4-week preparatory camp

With renewed hope, the Indian Football team is all set to face Kuwait in a must-win game in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Blue Tigers will have a four-week preparatory camp in Bhubaneswar, Odisha starting on 10 May 2024 ahead of the crucial clash on June 6.

Since the abysmal show at the AFC Asian Cup, head coach Igor Stimac has rued the lack of time at the preparatory camp. However, with the final two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers fixtures coming up, the Croatian is set to get all the time that he has asked for preparation with India’s hopes to advance hanging by a thread. Following the camp, the final 23-member squad will travel to Kolkata on June 2nd. The team will then travel after the match as they face Qatar on June 11th.

Can the Indian Football Team qualify for the next round?

Following a dismal performance against Afghanistan in their past two games, the Indian Football Teamind themselves in a precarious position, with just two nations advancing to the third round after six matches.

They began their campaign with a 1-0 win against Kuwait, but a 3-0 setback to Qatar in Bhubaneshwar did not assist their case, and the draw and loss against Afghanistan has only made India’s task more difficult.

Although India is presently second in the group with four points from as many games, the Sunil Chhetri-led team is just ahead of Afghanistan on goal difference. India will have to win both of their remaining games and cannot afford to drop one more point if they want to make it to the next round.
