Asian Champions Trophy LIVE – ACT 2021 LIVE: India were handed a shock loss in their semi-final clash on Tuesday as they were downed by a spirited Japan in Dhaka. Having defeated the same opposition 6-0 in the final group game, India were surprised by the pace and skill of their Kenta Tanaka and Co as they clinched a monumental 5-3 win. India made a slow start and Japan pounced going 2-0 ahead early.
While Dilpreet Singh hit back, Japan responded with three more to go 5-1 up in the game. Harmanpreet Singh and Hardik Singh did fetch late goals but it wasn’t enough as the Indians were relegated to the bronze medal match.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan also were beaten by a well-drilled South Korean side in a goal fest in Dhaka. In an end to end game, South Korea clinched the win with a vital fourth-quarter goal to eventually win 6-5, keeping the Men in Green from yet another final. Pakistan had taken the lead first, but Korea responded with two goals, and since then Asian hockey giants were chasing the game, which eventually proved unsuccessful.
Both India and Pakistan were set to play in the final of the Asian Champions Trophy’s last edition but had to share the honours after rain ruled out play on the day of the final. The two met earlier in this year’s tournament, with India registering a convincing 3-1 win en route to their top of the table finish in the group stage.
