Harry Maguire bashes Ten Hag, pleads with Man United ‘win rate’ for inclusion

Harry Maguire issues statement talking about playing time at Manchester United and talks about win percentage when he plays under Erik Ten Hag

If he continues to play a supporting position for Manchester United under manager Erik ten Hag, Harry Maguire has threatened to leave the club in January. Due to the injuries to six other defenders, Maguire, who was removed as United’s captain in the summer, received his first Premier League start of the year. He celebrated by assisting Scott McTominay’s winning goal against Brentford on Saturday.

Defender, Harry Maguire wants to be starting at Old Trafford

The 30-year-old’s hopes of starting for England at Euro 2024 under Gareth Southgate are jeopardised. This is by the prospect of being forced back to the bench once players like Raphael Varane are once again healthy. Harry Maguire claims he is prepared to play for United if Ten Hag gives him a proper run because he came close to joining West Ham this summer.

Harry Maguire said, ‘I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month. If it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things. It’s not my decision whether I start the next game for United or not. In a couple of weeks, I’ll go back and find out.’

He continued, ‘I have belief in my ability and it’s been tough. I want to play games and feel important to the club. At the moment, I haven’t been playing anywhere near as much as I would like. That is the bottom line.’

Maguire talking about his record

Harry Maguire also spoke about the win-percentage of Man United when he plays. He said, ‘I just have to make sure I am ready to take opportunities when they come along. My record under this manager speaks for itself. My win percentage when I’ve played is ridiculously high.’

He continued, ‘If you look back on my last 15 to 20 starts for club and country, I’m really happy with my performances. At the moment I am focused on two big games for England and then on fighting to try and win my place back at Manchester United and help the team climb the league.’

Since Ten Hag became the manager at Old Trafford in 2022, Harry Maguire’s career has taken a severe hit. In addition to getting just two minutes as a late replacement when United won the Carabao Cup to win their first trophy since 2017, he only made eight league starts the previous season. Maguire has received compliments for his cool response to receiving abuse from supporters.

Due to the absence of Varane, Martinez, Wan-Bissaka, Malacia, Shaw, and Reguilon against Brentford, Victor Lindelof was forced to play full back, giving him a rare opportunity.

The defender will interpret Ten Hag’s selection as a sign of his future. This is because Varane and Reguilon should be available for United’s upcoming game against Sheffield United a week from Saturday.
