Ilkay Gundogan to leave Barcelona for free if not registered before La Liga opener

If Barca fails to register for La Liga on time, Gundogan can leave for free. Barca will have to pay his €10 million wages for the first year of his three-year deal.

Ilkay Gundogan transfer: Former Man City star, Ikay Gundogan can reportedly leave Barcelona for free if he isn’t registered in time for their first top-flight game against Getafe. Barcelona faces a tough task to complete the registration for their summer signings on time.

This is a crazy fact but it can happen in real. Some Spanish outlets reported that the contract of the German midfielder has a significant clause that will allow him to leave his club for free if he is not registered in time for the season’s first La Liga match against Getafe.

The 32-year-old midfielder made a summer move on a free transfer from Man City. The Cityzens wanted to offer him a new contract but he turned down the extension to join the Catalan giants. He had a dream to play for Barcelona and he completed this with a free transfer. He also appeared in Barcelona’s pre-season games. Recently, we saw him playing in an El Classico victory.

Summer signing, Gundogan may leave Barcelona if club fails to complete the La Liga registration by season opener against Getafe on Sunday.

The whole drama happened due to the delay in his registration. Barcelona are already dealing with financial challenges. If Gundogan finds himself leaving Barcelona for free, the Catalan giants will have to pay his €10 million wages for the first year of his three-year deal.

The Spanish giants have registered only 13 players with La Liga. Departures of the players can help Barcelona. They have recently sold Franck Kessie to Al-Ahli. This will generate some revenue and help to reduce their salary bill.

Barca president Joan Laporta is also ready to sell a 16% stake in Barca Studios worth €65m to a German investment firm to add more stability in finance. It may solve the entire financial problem for Barcelona. They have to sort it out before the opening game against Getafe. Their first La Liga assignment is scheduled on Sunday and the time is running out quickly.

Laporta is putting his heart to complete the registration on time. They have to do it before Sunday. Barca is working on player sales and financial strategies to secure their players. Barcelona will play one more game in pre-season and it will be interesting to see how the former Man City midfielder takes part against Tottenham in the Joan Gamper trophy.
