However, after a solid first half, the game turned into a nightmare for Barcelona. Real Madrid started the second half with a bang, taking advantage of Barcelona’s sloppy passing in midfield.
Luka Modric ran 30-plus yards untouched with the ball to find Karim Benzema at the edge of the box, who was unmarked, and hit the shot into the bottom corner to give Madrid the lead on aggregate. Five minutes later, Benzema doubled Madrid’s lead, with a penalty from the French striker.
Madrid once again capitalised on a wide-open defense to add a fourth goal. The loss is a massive blow for Barcelona, who had high hopes for a league-cup double this season. Real Madrid, on the other hand, will face Osasuna in the Final.
