According to the AIFF calendar, the IWL was supposed to start on April 15. However, with the senior women’s national team abroad for friendlies and Olympic qualifying first-round matches, the clubs have stated that if the tournament begins earlier, they will not have enough time to prepare. The India Senior Women’s team is currently on tour, competing in friendlies against Jordan and Uzbekistan. The players will then join their respective clubs after competing in first-round AFC Olympic qualifiers in Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan on April 4 and 10, respectively.

Due to the current season’s deadline of May 31, the IWL will be a shortened league this year, with 16 teams competing – 12 state league champions and the top four teams from last season. They will be divided into two groups, with the top three teams from each group battling it out in a super-six round to determine the champion. The top eight teams will get direct slots in next season, which will be played on a home and away format.
