Football Fan Protests: ‘Stop Oil’ protests continue as fans tie themselves to the goalpost
Shortly after kick-off, protestors wearing t-shirts bearing the German text “Last Generation – Stop the Fossil Fuel Madness” each tied themselves to a post in the Frankfurt goal.
It took stewards around four minutes to break the ties and remove the protestors so the game could continue. There was a similar incident last month during the Everton-Newcastle United game in the English Premier League at Goodison Park. A protestor tied himself to a goalpost wearing a t-shirt reading “Just Stop Oil”.
Two people have tied themselves to the goalposts during Sunday’s Bundesliga encounter between Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg. In scenes similar to those at Goodison Park in the Premier League March, they appear to have used cable ties to attach themselves to the posts by their necks.
Similar incidents have recently been seen in Berlin as they appear to be protesting the use of fossil fuels, much like the protestor at Everton last month against Newcastle United at Goodison Park.
