Lukaku is struggling with injuries and form

Romelu Lukaku missed the only training session and warm-up match against Egypt last Friday.

Not just with injury, Romelu Lukaku hasn’t been in the best of strikes off late. The forward has struggled considerably in the past 18 months or so, ever since he was drafted by Inter Milan on loan. He also had a poor season with Chelsea, which led to the transfer in the first place.

In his defense, Lukaku has played just two matches for Inter Milan, largely due to injury concerns. Although he sprung into action last month and scored in the team’s victory over Viktoria Plzen, Just when it looked like he was back to his best, Lukaku once again injured his hamstring, making matters worse for his national team.

Belgium kicks off its World Cup campaign on Wednesday against Canada. Later, they take on Morocco in their next fixture and finally meet 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia at the start of December. It remains to be seen who replaces Lukaku and coach Martinez has some useful options up his sleeve. The starting favorite is likely to be Fenerbahce forward Michy Batshuayi, who played in the one warm-up match against Egypt, which the team lost 2-1 on Friday.
