The Portuguese tendered an apology to the fan later, but ten Hag has now confirmed that Ronaldo does not plan to accept the charge. He said: “We spoke about that, he will not accept it, I want to support him as good as possible.”

The Dutchman emphasized that the 37-year-old’s focus stays on the pitch and is determined to impress after scoring his first Premier League goal of the season last week.

“I want to get the best out of him, he’s in better shape now and I’m happy with that. At the start, it was the case [a lack of fitness], and that has proven once again that no-one can miss a pre-season,” he added. Ronaldo later invited the boy to watch a game at Old Trafford as his guest.

Ronaldo was also given a caution by the Merseyside Police after being interviewed over allegations of assault and criminal damage. However, United are not happy with the action taken by the association six months after the act, insisting that there is nothing substantial at the moment.

After the incident, Ronaldo delivered a lengthy post saying: “It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.”

After struggling throughout the 2022/23 campaign, Ronaldo finally got off the mark in the league with the winning goal at Everton last week. He started the game as a substitute, but was brought in early after another injury to striker Anthony Martial.

His goal also marks only the second goal this season after the one against Sheriff FC in the UEFA Europa League earlier last month. The goal was a significant one taking him to 700 club goals in his glorious career.

This includes 450 goals for Real Madrid, 101 for Juventus and 5 for Sporting Lisbon.  He has now scored 26 goals since returning to Manchester United last summer, extending his overall tally at the club to 144.
