Following Southampton’s 1-0 victory at Chelsea Bridge, Potter has come under intense criticism there. Chelsea’s January spending was greater than that of every club in La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 put together. The former Brighton manager has led the squad to only one victory throughout the whole calendar year, and the Blues are suffering in mid-table.

Last month, Stamford Bridge saw the arrival of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Joao Felix, and Noni Madueke. Additionally, it is claimed that the English contingent is concerned about being sold in the summer so that the West London club can balance its books. There is also a perception that expensive new players would be given preference when it comes to game time in order to pursue a long-term strategy.

It follows news that Chelsea and Mason Mount’s contract talks have been postponed until the summer, according to reports. As Chelsea resumes contract negotiations at the end of the year, Mount will have one year left on his current agreement. Liverpool is reportedly making a strong effort to sign the midfielder, and their interest coincides with a stalemate in his ongoing contract negotiations.

After just two victories in their first 14 games, Potter’s team is currently tenth in the Premier League standings. Also, they lost 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 match against Borussia Dortmund, and they could very well be out of the competition at the beginning of next month.
