Chelsea vs Borussia Dortmund Live: Club Friendlies LIVE – CHE vs DOR LIVE – Chelsea face Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in their last pre-season friendlies before they head back home for their first Premier League match against Liverpool. They are approaching the match with a high from winning the Premier League Summer Series. Whereas, Dortmund are approaching the blockbuster friendly on the back of a 5-match winning streak in their pre-season friendlies. They also boast a massive number of 21 goals scored in those 5 matches.

Chelsea went through one change after another in the previous season. Following the arrival of their new owner, their squad was boosted so much that it became bloated. That eventually became a problem for every coach that took on the job and they had 3 coaches last term alone. The Blues ended their nightmare season in 12th position in the league table. However, they were determined to get back to their glorious days in the upcoming season and they seem to be on the right track.

Chelsea started their pre-season campaign with a massive 5-0 win against Wrexham. Following the win, they travelled to the USA for the Premier League Summer Series. In that series, their first two matches were against Brighton which they won by a 4-3 margin, and a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. Their next match was a 2-0 win against Fulham which won them the series. They will now conclude their pre-season campaign with a friendly against Dortmund before they start the Premier League season against Liverpool on August 13.

Borussia Dortmund were on the verge of winning the Bundesliga as they had all odds going into the final matchday of the season. However, they failed to make the most of the opportunity and ended up handing Bayern Munich the title. They ended the season in 2nd place in the league table with the same points as the league leaders Bayern, losing the title to a lesser goal difference. They last met Chelsea this year in the Champions League quarter-finals where they were knocked out by the Blues.

Dortmund have started their preparations well with 5 consecutive wins. Their first three friendlies were against lower-tier teams – Westfalia Rhynern, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, and Rot-Weiss Erfurt that they respectively won by 0-7, 2-3, and 1-2 margins. They next won 6-0 against the second-tier American team San Diego Loyal. Their next win was 3-2 against Premier League giants Manchester United in another blockbuster friendly. Following their friendly against Chelsea, they will face Ajax in their last friendly before they start their season against Schott Mainz on August 12 in DFB-Pokal.

  • Chelsea have a large number of players who are sidelined with injuries even before the season could begin. Armando Broja and Wesley Fofana are both suffering from knee problems, while Benoit Badiashile is recovering from a hamstring issue and Marcus Bettinelli is out because of an unspecified injury. Trevoh Chalobah and Noni Madueke are also suffering from injuries.
  • Both Madueke and Chalobah will be assessed before the match and then the coach will take a late decision on whether they will be fit to play. Additionally, Mykhaylo Mudruk, Levi Colwill, Nicolas Jackson, Conor Gallagher, and Reece James are all waiting in line for a possible place in the starting XI after they played as substitutes last time around.
  • The coach handed youngsters Andrey Santos, Gabriel Slonina, Mason Burstow, and Bashir Humphreys their chances to start for Chelsea against Fulham in the last match. Slonina got his first appearance for the club in that match. Coach Pochettino could give them some playing time again in this match.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

  • Coach Terzic has almost the entire squad at his disposal to utilise against Chelsea. He only has two players recovering from injuries at this time. Julien Duranville is suffering from a muscle injury, while Nico Schlotterbeck is recovering from a knock. Both players were unavailable for their last match against Man United and they remain doubtful for this match as well.
  • One of their new recruits Marcel Sabitzer made his first appearance for the club in their last match. He could start another time against the Blues, while another new arrival Felix Nmecha is yet to make his debut. Meanwhile, Julian Brandt, Emre Can, and Salih Ozcan are all competing for a start in the midfield.
  • Karim Adeyami was the sole goalscorer for Dortmund in their 1-0 win against Chelsea earlier this year in the Champions League quarter-final. He might start again in this match in the final third alongside Sebastian Haller and Donyell Malen. However, the coach also has Thorgan Hazard, Marco Reus, and Youssoufa Moukoko as options.
