Bayern Munich vs Barcelona: Players reactions to Barcelona’s management failure after yesterday’s game: Reactions pour in as Barcelona does not qualify for the Round of 16 for the first time in 21 years, the Catalans have been relegated to the Europa League after coming 3rd in their UCL Group – Follow Live Updates: Barcelona endured their worst Champions League campaign in two decades on Thursday, as another humiliating defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich sealed elimination at the group stage.

The Catalans went into their final game battling Benfica for the second qualifying spot in Group E and knowing they might well need to chase a result in the Allianz Arena. But Benfica’s 2-0 victory in Lisbon over Dynamo Kyiv means that the Blaugrana will have to settle for the Europa League after the new year.

Xavi’s young Barca team tried to compete against Bayern but never came close to bothering the German champions, Bayern looked to be in control all the time.

What Xavi said about Barcelona in post-match Press Conference:

Xavi said: “Barca don’t deserve this. I don’t like this reality that we’re living. We have to work hard to reverse this situation. Barça must fight for the Champions League. And I feel responsible.”

“The Europa League? It’s our reality and now we have to go and win it. This is Barca’s goal, to win every game and win all the titles.”

“I love this club. There is a feeling of helplessness right now, but we will do everything to bring Barça back.”

“I expected us to compete in a different way, and it is a blow for me as a coach too. We have to change things.”

Current Barcelona Captain Sergio Busquets also shared his thoughts on the game, the Barcelona skipper said: Busquets:

“We feel very bad right now; this isn’t what we wanted and the club and our fans don’t deserve this.  We’re in a tough, difficult situation and it hurts a lot. Many factors have led us to this.”

“Of course we feel very frustrated. It hurts a lot but we got into this situation ourselves. If we’d got more points, we wouldn’t have been in this situation. We didn’t play well in the first two games, we got ourselves into this mess and it hurts a lot.”

Highly rated La Masia academy graduate Ronald Araujo said:

“It’s a damning result and they had chances to make it worse. We started well but they created a couple of chances and scored. Their first goal knocked our confidence.”

“Ultimately, we didn’t not qualify because of this game but because of what we did in the other games. We have to keep on working and hope that good things will come for us soon.”

“It’s true that, right now, we’re not among the best teams in Europe. If we were, we’d have qualified. Our objective now is to win the Europa League. We have to go out to compete and try to win it.”

Not only Barcelona players but Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller also talked to Media after the game: The German legend didn’t hold back and told everyone what he thinks of Barcelona in reality.

Muller said: Barcelona still have big names. Economically, things are not looking great. I feel like they can’t keep up with the intensity. Technically and tactically, they have everything you need, but they just can’t keep up with the pace. We took advantage of that”

Bayern Munich’s second goal-scorer and former Man City man Leroy Sane also spoke to the media, Sane said:

“I have to honestly say, I just looked up and then I saw the ball in the net. I think it was unfortunate for Marc.”

After the game, many people outside the club questioned the system on which the club is being run.

Former Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo stating that:

The difference between Barça and Leeds? Physical preparation, football has changed and just relying on the quality and talent that Barca players have is not enough. Analyzing videos of rivals at Barça? No, we didn’t do that there.”

“I asked Koeman for explanations until one day he started lying to me. He told me things that don’t make sense: that I trained badly, that I contaminated the group.”

The Barcelona media has come hard of many starters of the club, with prominent outlets like Sport and Mundo Deportivo questioning the players ambition-

Reliable journalist Gerard Romero claimed that: “Ter Stegen is on the market. Offers for Dest and De Jong will be studied as well.” He further went on to say that- as a respite for the Barcelona fans, Ferran Torres will 99% join Barça in the January transfer window.

Cope reported that: Barcelona will lose 20 million euros + a loss of money from sponsorships due to the failure to qualify.
