Barcelona vs Shakhtar Donetsk: La Blaugrana look to keep 100% winning streak

Barcelona are looking to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages with 2 matches still in hand.

Barcelona vs Shakhtar Donetsk Live: Champions League LIVE – BAR vs SHK LIVE – Barcelona travel to Germany to face Shakhtar Donetsk in their fourth Champions League group stage match. They’ve managed to win all 3 of their previous games. With a 100% winning run, La Blaugrana are sitting at the top of their group. Whereas, Shakhtar are occupying 3rd-place with 3 points from their previous 3 games. If Barcelona manage to extend their winning streak, they will qualify for the knockout stage with 2 games still in hand.

Barcelona have not been able to get past the group stages in the last two season. However, they’ve made an impeccable start this season with a 3-game winning run. They were also on an unbeaten run in La Liga which ended with a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid at the end of October. However, they bounced back with a 1-0 win against Real Sociedad yesterday. They will look to build on that with a win against Shakhtar Donetsk to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage with 2 games in hand.

Shakhtar Donetsk started their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Porto. They came back with a 3-2 win against Royal Antwerp. They played an impressive game against Barcelona in their 3rd match, but failed to get away with a win. They will now look to avoid a repeat of that match at home. However, it will be hard to call it a true home game as they will play the match in Hamburg, Germany. The Ukrainian team failed to qualify for the knockout stages in their last 5 campaigns.

However, he still remains a doubt to start the match on Tuesday. The rest of the injured players also remain a doubt for the match except Sergi Roberto.
  • Roberto is sure to miss as his recovery from the calf problem he’s nursing could still take some time. Frenkie de Jong could miss the match as well as he’s yet to fully recover from his ankle issue. Robert Lewandowski is also nursing an ankle issue of his own. However, he could feature in the starting XI for this match.
  • Coach Xavi will surely make a number of changes from the squad that took the field against Real Sociedad. Raphinha and Andreas Christensen should be called up for the starting XI. Whereas, Oriol Romeu and Lamine Yamal are also strong candidates for places in the starting XI. However, chances are that the duo will be on the bench when the starting whistle blows.

Shakhtar Donetsk Team News

  • The coach called up Yaroslav Rakitskyi off the bench to replace injured Azarovi during the match. With Azarovi set to miss the match, the 34-year-old Rakitskyi is set to take his place in the starting XI against Barcelona.
  • In the final third, Danylo Sikan has scored four times so far this season fore the Ukrainian team. He will be taking his place in the starting XI along with Oleksandr Zubkov who is just behind Sikan with 3 goals to his name so far this season.
