Despite Barcelona hitting a rocky patch and dropping a number of points in recent months, club President Joan Laporta backed manager Xavi Hernandez to turn things around at the club. Laporta’s statement came following Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallencano in La Liga on Saturday.

Barcelona have had a staggering start to the 2023-24 campaign. They are yet to secure a Champions League round of 16 spot, having lost to Shakhtar Donetsk in the last UCL matchday. The Spanish giants are further off in the La Liga race, sitting at the fourth position, four points behind leaders Real Madrid at the moment. However, second placed Girona has played a game less and another victory for Girona would mean Barca would fall six points behind the leaders.

However, President Laporta has reasserted confidence in Xavi despite the poor run of results, claiming he is the right man and the club is with him ‘100%’.

We are with Xavi. 100% guaranteed, our support will be total. He’s our manager and we are proud to have him as a coach,” Laporta said on Monday.

For us it is a pride to have a coach like Xavi, we have always said it. We are totally with him. We have complete confidence in him and now he has all the players available… In this time with the injuries he has managed to move forward, which was not easy. We trust that he will go well against Porto. We see him very motivated,” Laporta told TV3.

With all the confidence shown on him, it would be a big challenge for Xavi to start winning matches soon. It will definitely not be easy with players such as Gavi missing with long-term injury.
