The Portuguese completed his shock move to Manchester United last summer and ended up scoring 24 goals for the Red Devils. Ronaldo was United’s top scorer last season, however, the Manchester club failed to qualify for a direct UEFA Champions League spot as the club finished sixth in the league.
The United forward was on the verge of leaving the club this summer but stayed with the Manchester side reportedly due to a lack of offers for the 37-year-old. This season the player has spent a significant amount on the bench under new coach Erik Ten Hag but still managed to get register his 700th club goal against Everton a week ago.

The eternal rival of the Portuguese winger, Lionel Messi, did not make the Ballon d’or shortlist this year after winning the trophy for a record 7th time in 2021. With Ronaldo’s finish in the 20th position, this will be the first time in 16 years when both generational footballers will not be at the podium of this prestigious award.
The former teammate of the Portuguese Karim Benzema is expected to lift the trophy this year for the first time in his career.
