Antonio Habas claims Mohun Bagan deserved to win ISL 2024 Shield, Dimitri Petratos determined to win ISL 2024 Cup

Mohun Bagan won their maiden ISL Shield after beating Mumbai City FC 2-1 at the Salt Lake. It was a historic night as records tumbled, with the Mariners beating the Islanders for the first time in ISL’s history. Amidst the celebration, Bagan’s head coach claimed that they were the best team and they deserved to win the shield.

The odds were tipped against the Mariners. Heading into the game, Mumbai City FC had a 2-point advantage and a draw would have been enough for them to defend their title. But the Green and Maroon brigade came out with all guns blazing. Liston Colaco lifted the crowd with a stunner before Jason Cummings doubled the lead. Chhangte pulled a goal back but it was too late for the visitors.

Mohun Bagan was the Best Team

Antonio Lopez Habas turned Mohun Bagan around after a string of poor performances. Mid season, the Mariners parted ways with Juan Ferrando as Habas re-joined the side. The Spanish tactician claimed how his side has been the best team over the period and how they deserved to win the trophy.

“I am very happy happy. We deserve the trophy. In the last 12 matches Mohun Bagan was the best team. This is a memorable moment. Mumbai is a very good team and very difficult to beat. Thus this match is the best for us,” said Mohun Bagan’s head coach Antonio Lopez Habas.

The job is not done yet. Mohun Bagan is happy after winning the Shield but there is another trophy up for grabs. The Mariners won the ISL Cup last time and will ready to win it once again. Ace forward Dimitri Petratos thanked the fans for their support and claimed that they are ready to win the remaining trophy.

“Love for the peopple. The people came out in big numbers and we made history today. We made it happen, everybody together. Thank You so much for the support, and there is still one more to go. Let’s go,” said Dimitri Petratos after winning the ISL Shield.
