AIFF under CoA: Follow Indian football live updates – According to former President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Praful Patel, the Indian football governing body does not face any immediate threats of a FIFA ban. However, they must resolve issues regarding the constitution by the end of July to avoid such an occurrence. Follow AIFF under CoA, Indian football live updates with InsideSport.IN.

Notably, Patel has been removed from his post by the Supreme Court of India, given he has already served his maximum tenure of 12 years. With no clarity on the constitution of AIFF, the board is currently being run by a three-member CoA team appointed by the court, which includes SY Quraishi, Bhaskar Ganguly and Anil Dave.

However, there are high chances that FIFA call this a ‘third-party interference’, which will result in a ban. Speaking about the threat of a ban, Patel told the Indian Express “I have been proactively engaging with them (FIFA and Asian Football Confederation) so they can understand the situation better. I have been successful to the extent that we’ve been able to avoid immediate suspension.”

They have made it very clear that if this issue is not resolved in a reasonable time frame, say by end of July, the next steps will follow. That they have indicated to me,” the former President further added.

Meanwhile, both FIFA and the AFC are sending delegates to scrutinize the situation within AIFF first-hand. The General Secretary of the AFC, Datuk Seri Windsor John will be leading the delegation. Besides him, AFC’s deputy General Secretary Vahid Kardany and FIFA’s Senior Manager Sara Solemale will also be visiting India.

Delegates from FIFA and AFC will visit India soon

Patel further clarified “If the CoA is convinced the constitution can be formalised and placed before Supreme Court, we may be able to avoid any suspension. It all depends on the timelines that are going to be presented before the FIFA-AFC team which will be visiting India.”

Consequences India will face if they get banned by FIFA:

  • If India gets a FIFA ban, all of India’s football activities will come to a halt.
  • India are slated to play three matches in the 2023 AFC Cup Qualifiers next month. In case of a ban, those games will be called off.
  • Like the senior team, the junior sides will also be adversely affected.
  • The FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which is supposed to be held in India from October, might be rescheduled in a different host country.
  • The AFC Cup matches in Kolkata, where ATK Mohun Bagan and Gokulam Kerala are playing, could be called off.
  • However, domestic tournaments will run as usual even if there is a FIFA ban, since FIFA does not have jurisdiction over competitions like ISL and I-League.
  • Though ISL and I-League might continue, transfers of overseas players will be totally stopped.
