Ahmedabad to have football stadium of 50,000 capacity to strengthen India’s 2036 Olympics bid

According to sources, the master plan of the SVP sports enclave has been prepared in the light of the Olympic requirements and is expected to play an important role in India's bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.

In addition to the Narendra Modi stadium, Ahmedabad will have five other stadiums of international caliber. The Centre along with the State Government approved the proposal to construct a Football Stadium of Olympic standard and four other stadiums of international stature. This is being done in bid to strengthen India’s position in 2036 Olympics bidding process.

The basic plan is already in place and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority has started the tender process for the 5 stadiums. Last month, Prime Minister Modi declared India’s ambition to host the 2036 Summer Olympics and the 2030 Summer Youth Olympics.

According to sources, the master plan of the SVP sports enclave has been prepared in the light of the Olympic requirements. It is expected to play an important role in India’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.

The scope of the project includes a football stadium of approximately 50,000 seats, 2 indoor arenas of approx 18,000 & 10,000 seats respectively, an Aquatics center of approx 12,000 seats, a tennis center of approx 10,000 seats, training facility for multi-sports, improved general connectivity and accessibility to ensure long-term community benefit. The proposed Sabarmati Sport Enclave is planned to cover an area of 350 Acres along the riverfront.

In the master plan, there is a dedicated area for the development of a lively riverfront, as well as temporary facilities for future needs. The facility is not just for sports, but also for commercial and entertainment activities.

The construction of this project is expected to commence by October 2024 and to be completed by the end of October 2027. This project will play an important role in India’s bid to host the Olympics 2036 and will act as a stepping stone in transforming India into a global sporting hub.
