AFC Asian Cup 2023: Australia Football Team dominates proceedings. lead 2-0

Australia Football Team register a comfortable 2-0 win against India in AFC Asian Cup 2023. Jackson Irvine opened the scoring in the second half before substitute Jordan Bos doubled the lead for the Socceroos. The Blue Tigers who mainly banked on counter attacks, failed to convert the few golden chances that they got.

FT – And there goes the final whistle. It has been an exciting contest between the two sides. Finally it Australia who register a comfortable 2-0 lead courtesy of Jackson Irvine and Jordan Bos.

69′ – Australia had their heart in their mouths. A long ball took out Matt Ryan and almost reached the back of the net. It would have surely been a weird goal none the less.

64′ – A double change for Australia – IN – Riley McGree and Samuel Silvera, OUT – Martin Boyle and Connor Metcalfe

60′ – We reach the hour mark into the game. Australia continue to dominate proceedings as India look for a wayout.

55′ – Australia are playing brilliant football. They are eager to find the insurance goal to seal the game in their favour.

50′ – GOALLLL! Australia take the lead. Jackson Irvine quickly slots the ball into the back of the net after Gurpreet Singh Sandhu spills the ball right in front of the Aussie midfielder who scores his 10th International goal.

49′ – A quick attack by Australia as Goodwin finds Irvine down the left flank. But Gurpreet charges down to claim the loose ball.

46′ – And with the long whistle we kick start the second half of this exciting game.

HT – And there goes the half time whistle. There is has been nothing to separate the two sides in terms of goal scoring abilities. Australia have dominated proceedings but they haven’t been able to breach India’s defences.

45′ – There will be 5 minutes of added time. Igor Stimac is livid with the decision and have made his views cleared to the 4th official.

43′ – The match is stopped after a strong head on head collision of Sandesh Jhingan with Kye Rowles.

40′ – We approach the dying minutes of the first half. Australia keen to get a breakthrough while India go toe-to-toe with their defensive approach.

35′ – Bit of frantic moments from the Indians. Duke was been harassing India’s defenders but the Blue Tigers remain resolute.

30′ – Half an hour has elapsed as Australia continue to increase their might in their attacks. But India’s defensive setup has been rock solid so far thwarting every attack

25′ – Bit of to and fro attacks from both sides which doesn’t culminate to anything fruitful so far.

20′ – Bit of wayward passing from both the sides. But India have maintained their solid defensive setup.

16′ – What a chance for India! Poojary with a wonderful cross and Sunil Chhetri’s brilliant header misses the goal by a whisker.

13′- Baccus evades his marker to win a free header. But Gurpreet safely handles the ball after the Aussie midfielder failed to generate any power from the header.

9′ – Quick counter from Chhangte who finds Manvir. But the Right winger after extensive dribble foils the good attack.

7′- Australia dominates possession but they have been poor in giving away cheap balls.

2′- Nothing to separate the two sides in the opening 2 minutes. Bit scrappy from both sides as they aim to establish possession. India however have registered a quick and pacy counter attack via Chhangte who failed to find Chhetri.

0′ – And here we go! We have the kickoff!

4:58 PM – The customary pre match proceedings are done. And we await the start of this epic encounter.

4:55 PM – It is now time for the National Anthems. First Australia’s, then followed by the Indian National Anthem.

4:51 PM – The players are out in the field for the pre match ceremonies. The National Anthems are set to start soon.

4:50 PM – Time keeps ticking on. The players have finished their pre-match warmup and are ready for the exiting battle ahead for 90 minutes.

4:44 PM – Around 15 minutes remain for the Kick off. The game promises to be entertaining and we patiently await for the start of the clash.

There are quite a few injury concerns for Igor Stimac’s boys. Team India will miss the services of Anwar Ali and Jeakson Singh. On the other hand, star playmaker Sahal Abdul Samad is yet to recover from his injury and has been ruled out of the fixture. But with Chhetri leading the side, India will aim to give a tough competition.

The ideal case scenario for India will be etch out a draw against their 25th FIFA ranked opponent. For Australia, skipper Matthew Ryan is back with the team after recovering from his injury.

On the other hand, the IND vs AUS match will be special in terms of refereeing’s point of view. Yoshimi Yamashita from Japan will become the first women referee to officiate a men’s AFC Asian Cup clash.
