After Sunday’s scoreless draw at the Stadium Benito Villamarin, a Betis fan was caught on camera yelling racist epithets towards Vinicius. LaLiga once more turned to legal action. Racism in La Liga has been under scrutiny this season, particularly in relation to Vinicius Junior. La Liga has responded in this way after the Madrid attacker received racial insults seven times.

A La Liga statement on Thursday read: “In view of the racist insults directed towards Vinicius Jr during the Real Betis – Real Madrid match on Sunday, March 5, LaLiga has sent a complaint to the Seville Court of Instruction in order to identify the person responsible and to take the appropriate legal measures.”
Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti came out and addressed the issue in January when he said: “Vinicius is the victim of something I don’t understand. It is a problem of Spanish football and I am part of Spanish football and it is a problem that we have to solve.”
Real Madrid’s dismal 0-0 draw against Real Betis on Sunday marked the end of a challenging week and did little to improve their chances of catching Barcelona in the LaLiga title chase. Real controlled against Betis but squandered several opportunities after dropping the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinal by a score of 1-0 at home to Barca on Thursday.
