As Pritam Kotal struck the crossbar, ATK Mohun Bagan missed a tremendous opportunity. From the middle of the field, Dimitri Petratos executed a free kick that was directed towards the left side of the penalty area. As soon as he reached it, Subhasish Bose cushioned his header across the goal. Pritam Kotal charged in and attempted to kick the ball into an open goal, but it hit the crossbar and Hyderabad FC was able to escape with a win.

Manvir Singh squandered a great opportunity later in the half. On the opposite side, a second ball was lobbed through the Hyderabd FC defence. Manvir was able to catch the end of it after it was flicked into his path. Manvir ran up to the by-line and unleashed a shot from a tight arc across the field. Hugo Boumous and Dimitri Petratos were ready to tap it home, but it didn’t roll across the face of the goal. Gurmeet Singh made an excellent save on the shot.
Afterwards, Liston Colaco tried his luck from a distance, but from 40 yards out, Gurmeet Singh was getting caught out. Liston Colaco did well to grab hold of a loose ball on the near side and to outrun his defender before cutting slightly inside. He fires from the centre, and it was a good strike as well. Gurmeet Singh simply palmed it back onto the field and effortlessly retrieved it.

In the fourth quarter of the game, both teams inserted new players as fatigue began to set in and the tempo of the game decreased. The only opportunity during that span came from an audacious volley by Petratos from roughly 40 yards out as both defences remained at the top of their games. It was the final play of the opening leg.
As they enter the second leg on equal footing, both teams still have an equal chance of making it to the Hero ISL championship game. On Monday, March 13, they will square off once more at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, where Hyderabad FC prevailed on aggregate despite losing the second leg the year before.
