Spurs’ manager responded to Richarlison ahead of club’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Conte called Richarlison ‘selfish’ and admitted that Brazil forward’s season has not been good. The 25-year-old started at the bench for Wednesday’s goalless draw against AC Milan that saw them getting knocked out 1-0 on aggregate.
“First of all, I watched the interview of Richarlison. He didn’t criticise me. He said his season was s**t and he’s right. His season has been not good,” Conte said during the press conference.

“He had injuries, played and scored in the Champions League and then went to the World Cup and then had a serious injury. He’s scored no goals for us. I think he was really honest to say his season was not good. His season has not finished yet. If he deserves to play I’ll give him the opportunity,” Conte further added.
Richarlison joined Spurs for a record £60m last summer but has not featured much for the North London side. The 25-year-old has scored just 2 goals in 25 games in all competitions for Tottenham.
Richarlison was part of starting line-up for games against West Ham and Chelsea but was dropped to bench after a shocking FA Cup exit at the hands of Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, Conte’s position is also in jeopardy after Spurs’ Champions League debacle. The 53-year-old admitted after the game that he might get sacked by Tottenham before the end of the season.
“My contract expires in June. We will see they might sack me even before the end of the season, who knows, maybe they are disappointed”, Conte told Italian TV after Wednesday’s goalless draw.
